Store Designs and Concepts |
Our stores are designed to present a warm, comfortable environment to the buying public. We design and manufacture our own space saving racks and this allows the stores to be somewhat smaller than some others which helps keep overhead down. For an average store, 800 sq. ft. is the minimum and this includes room for a hitting area. There is no upper limit on size. A franchise can go as large as desired in space and inventory. Somewhere in the store will be a "False Mansard", which is a sort of shingled roof, or something similar, and it is intended to go with the trademarked name to lend some sort of identification feature that most franchised stores don't have. All models will deal in trade-ins with an ultimate goal of realizing about a 50% split between new and used clubs. There is money to be made in good pre-owned name brand equipment. One smaller model is for the person who would like to specialize in repairs and custom fitting. The inventory for this concept can be smaller, as low as $20,000. The store will have a nice inventory of bags, shoes, and accessories. A hitting area possibly with a swing analyzer will be included. Only a few sets of new irons and woods will be initially on hand. Name brands can be ordered as needed, and the store will offer to buy, sell, and take trade-ins. A store of this type can expect business to be slower at first and then gradually pick up as the operator develops that solid, repeating customer base. Another smaller model is the mini-franchise, which could be added to an existing compatible business. Ski shops, billiard stores, and many other seasonal businesses should consider this to round out their sales in the off season. The franchise fee for this model is reduced to $5,000 and we recommend about $20,000 in inventory. Our racks are moveable and can be repositioned as the seasons change. We mentioned the average model in the "How Much are the Stores" page. The $35,000 inventory amount includes shop equipment and tools. There will be a small amount of the premium name brands, but with only about 15% markup, it is not cost effective, or even possible, to include too many. We stock several excellent name brands that afford a 50% markup and they are just as good. We also stock several excellent custom club brands, not knock-offs, that offer 50% or more mark-up. We also stock shoes, gloves, balls, bags, and other accessories. A nice hitting area is mandatory and we do lots of repairs and custom fitting. 800 to 1200 sq. ft. will do for a store of this size. (A smaller store in a better area is better than a larger store in a poor area.) A swing analyzer is desirable but not mandatory. The large store, or super store: How deep are your pockets and how large do you want to be? This is up to you. A million in inventory is fine with me. The franchise fee will remain at $10,000 regardless. The size of the store will just be determined by the amount of the inventory. For all models, we make two suggestions. 1. Don't borrow a lot of money to get into a golf store. 2. Become Instructor Certified and enjoy helping customers with their game.
